Rotator Cuff Injury in Chicago
How We Help Rotator Cuff Injuries!
The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder joint and help stabilize the shoulder while allowing the arm to move. Rotator cuff problems can develop from an acute injury, repetitive overhead activity, overuse, or gradual changes in the tendons over time.
Symptoms may include shoulder pain, weakness, tenderness, stiffness, or difficulty lifting and rotating the arm. Everyday activities such as reaching overhead, getting dressed, carrying objects, exercising, working, or sleeping on the affected shoulder may become uncomfortable.
At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center in Lincoln Park, we provide acupuncture and complementary therapies that may be incorporated into a broader rotator cuff care plan to help manage shoulder discomfort, surrounding muscle tension, stiffness, and mobility limitations.
Because rotator cuff injuries can range from irritation and tendinopathy to partial or complete tears, care should be individualized based on the type and severity of the injury, shoulder strength, range of motion, activity level, health history, and personal goals.
Acupuncture and complementary therapies may be incorporated into a broader approach focused on helping manage discomfort and supporting comfortable movement. These therapies do not mechanically repair a torn rotator cuff tendon or restore shoulder strength and stability on their own. Rehabilitation and medical or orthopedic evaluation may be appropriate depending on the injury.

WHAT OUR PATIENTS ARE SAYING
How Can A Rotator Cuff Injury Affect Daily Life?
A rotator cuff injury can make everyday shoulder movements uncomfortable or difficult. Depending on the severity of the injury, symptoms may interfere with reaching, lifting, carrying, dressing, working, exercising, participating in sports, and sleeping comfortably.
Rotator cuff injuries may be associated with:
- Shoulder pain and tenderness
- Pain when raising or lowering the arm
- Reduced comfortable range of motion
- Shoulder or arm weakness
- Difficulty reaching overhead or behind the back
- Difficulty lifting or carrying objects
- Discomfort during work, exercise, or sports
- Difficulty sleeping on the affected shoulder
- Reduced participation in everyday activities
- Reduced overall quality of life
Persistent shoulder pain or weakness should be appropriately evaluated because several different shoulder conditions can produce similar symptoms. Determining whether symptoms involve the rotator cuff, another shoulder structure, or a different source of pain can help guide appropriate care.
Seek medical evaluation for severe shoulder pain following an injury, visible deformity, substantial swelling, inability to raise or use the arm, sudden or significant weakness, numbness, loss of sensation, or symptoms that continue to worsen.
At Progressive Acupuncture Wellness Center, complementary care may be incorporated into an individualized plan focused on helping manage shoulder discomfort, muscle tension, mobility, and overall well-being.
